A recent guest wrote about her holiday with Wilderness Wanders.

"Thank you for a very happy holiday in the Flinders Ranges.

Frank and I appreciated Phil's care and attention and his information about the area.

It is very obvious that he has a great affection for the Flinders Ranges and we can well understand why."

With pick up from your accommodation in Adelaide we begin the journey to the beautiful Flinders Ranges via South Australia's famous wine growing region Clare Valley. Enter the Flinders Ranges at the quaint historic town of Melrose situated at the base of Mount Remarkable. Next is the town of Quorn, famed for the beautifully restored Pich Richi Railway.

At the small railway town of Quorn, we stop at the Quandong Café, where you can sample the famous Quandong pie, made from this delicious Australian native bush food.

Travelling north into the heart of the Flinders, we pass interesting ruins from a bygone era when man dared to settle this remote outback location.

Arriving at the beautiful Wilpena resort, we settle into our luxurious accommodation before taking a scenic flight over the remarkable Wilpena Pound. This vast natural bowl shaped depression with sheer outer walls and gentle inner slopes, can only be truly appreciated from the air.
Dinner is at the resort’s restaurant. After dinner you can either relax with a drink at the bar,go for a stroll through the resort or retire to the comfort of your room.
Day 2 :

After a hearty breakfast, we set out for an energetic and invigorating all day walking adventure  to the top of Saint Mary’s Peak on the outer rim of Wilpena Pound. At 1171 metres, it is the highest peak in the Flinders. The climb is tough in places, but the view from the top makes it more than worthwhile. With incredible 360 degree, totally unobstructed views, and crystal clear atmosphere, it seems you can see forever. From here the rugged mountain chains stretch away into the distance, fading into a deep blue as they do so. A packed lunch, water and small backpack are provided.

Back at Wilpena resort we dine again at the delicious restaurant.

Relax and rest your feet or participate in an astronomy tour of our magnificent clear dark skies, free from atmospheric and light pollution creating superb astronomical viewing conditions and a truly unforgettable experience.

Day 3 :

A more relaxing day today, we explore the rich scenery and geology of the Flinders Rangers National Park by four wheel drive.

We follow the Brachina Gorge geological trail, where the incredible 700 million years old geological history of the area is described. You will see fossils of the very first creatures on Earth as well as stunning scenery.

Lunch is at the famous Prairie hotel at the tiny outback township of Parachilna. The award winning hotel restaurant specializes in true Aussie foods, such as kangaroo and emu. From there we travel back into the ranges via the stunning Parachilna gorge, to the old mining town of Blinman, where we visit the historic old mine site.

We return to Wilpena through more stunning rugged mountain scenery.

Day 4 :

Today we leave Wilpena for the magnificent northern Flinders Ranges resort of Arkaroola. Along the way we visit the beautiful chambers gorge, where a walk along the creek bed brings us to ancient aboriginal carvings. After travelling through the rugged and remote Gammon Ranges, we arrive at Arkaroola, where there will be time for a stroll through the village after shifting into your accommodation. After a delicious dinner at the restaurant, we go to one of Arkaroola’s two observatories to learn about the wonders of the night sky. Arkaroola has some of Australia’s darkest and clearest skies.

Day 5 :

Today we experience one of the most unique and exciting tours in Australia, Arkaroola’s world famous ‘Ridgetop Tour’. This extreme four wheel drive tour takes in the exceedingly rugged area of the very Northern flinders Ranges.

After lunch we will visit the scenic Nooldoolnooldoona Waterhole, (or Sharpy’s walk, 3-4 hours?) and hopefully spot a rare Yellow Footed Rock Wallaby.

Dinner is again in the delightful restaurant.

Day 6 :

For those who wish, there is an optional 35 minute scenic flight over Arkaroola, before we head out to explore the rugged and beautiful scenery of Northern Arkaroola.

Visit Stubb’s Waterhole, Tillite Gorge, Paralana Hot Springs (Australia’s only springs heated by radioactive decay of granites deep underground), Arkaroola Springs and more. This is truly a superb day. Packed lunch is provided.

Tonight we dine again in Arkaroola’s restaurant.

Day 7 :

Today we say goodbye to this stunning area and travel back to Adelaide.

Along the way we visit the award winning Aboriginal tourist centre of Iga Warta, the coal mining town of Leigh Creek, Aroona Dam and pass along the Western Side of the mighty Wilpena Pound. There will also be time to explore some of the fascinating and beautiful gorges of the southern section of the Flinders before arriving back into Adelaide  in the late afternoon.

We know you will find this all-inclusive package one of the most memorable experiences you’ve ever had, with a chance to sit back, relax and leave the organization up to us, while you soak in the incredible delights of south Australia’s unique Flinders Ranges.
